How to do a three-day juice cleanse

6 June 2017

A juice cleanse will remove the unhealthy toxins from your body and replace them with nutrients and antioxidants. This can help to jump start a weight loss routine or be the first step toward a healthier lifestyle but how do you make sure you get the maximum benefits from a three day cleanse? By preparing in advance, you’ll see better results and be more likely to avoid temptation during your cleanse. Want to get started? Here’s how to do a three-day juice cleanse...

Pre-cleanse

It is recommended that you pre-cleanse for 2-7 days, depending on your current bad habits and lifestyle.  If your current diet is packed with junk food, you’ll see better results if you eliminate the bad stuff 7 days in advance and drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. This will help to bring your body into a more alkaline state which will make it easier for the nutrients from the juice to be transported to your cells. Before you begin, set an intention for your cleanse. Are you cleansing to begin a weight loss routine or do you want to be fully committed to a change in your lifestyle? Always make sure you take the time to reflect and rest on your cleanse.

During cleanse

During your three-day cleanse, you should start every day with a glass of warm water with fresh lemon. This is a liver stimulant and will begin the cleansing process before you’ve taken a sip of your first juice. With any cleanse, consistency is key so aim to drink a juice every 2 to 2.5 hours. This means that throughout the day you should be consuming 6 to 8 juices, with the last one 2 hours before you go to bed. If you skip a juice, you’re more likely to be hungry and more prone to temptation. Your energy levels are likely to waver while you’re cleansing so limit yourself to less strenuous exercises such as walking and yoga. It is also recommended that you take time for introspective activities as it helps to establish and maintain a positive state of mind.

Post-cleanse

As you begin to introduce solid foods back into your diet, remember that your digestive system has been in a state of rest for the past few days. This is why for the first few days you should try and stick to only fruits and greens and absolutely avoid red meat, alcohol, dairy and fried food. One of the best ways to ease your body back into solid foods is with smoothies. After fruits and vegetables, you can begin to integrate nuts and grains and then finally organic meat and fish. By doing this over the course of a few days, you’ll be able to monitor how you feel and even figure out if you have a sensitivity to certain foods.

Once you’ve completed your juice cleanse, you should not only feel a huge sense of accomplishment, but your skin should look better, you should feel more energetic, and you might have even lost a few pounds.  One of the biggest benefits of a juice cleanse, though, is that it shifts you away from the bad habits you’ve been doing for so long and makes you feel more motivated to create healthier ones.
