How to fit exercise into your busy schedule

10 July 2019

If you often feel like there simply aren't enough hours in the day for you to squeeze in everything that you want to do, then exercising could often be left far down your to-do list. In fact, it could easily drop off that list as other, seemingly more urgent matters keep popping up out of nowhere. Is this all painting a familiar picture for you? Consider that many people have still found ways of making time for exercise even when their tight schedule has curbed the probability.

Is this all painting a familiar picture for you? Consider that many people have still found ways of making time for exercise even when their tight schedule has curbed the probability.

Make a habit of walking wherever you can

Walking might be "the most underrated form of exercise", says iNews. After all, it can not only effectively burn energy, but also be easily integrated into day-to-day routines.

For example, where practically possible, your morning commute could partly comprise walking - and, at times when you have the choice of taking a lift or ascending stairs, you can choose the latter. According to health authorities, you should aim to get 10,000 steps into each day.

Choose workouts that are possible nearly anywhere

If you think picking such workouts would be tricky, well... you might be right. After all, ideally, these forms of exercise would meet a range of specific criteria cited by Greatist.

For example, you shouldn't have to spend a lot of time preparing for these exercises, which should enable you to rapidly but significantly make physical gains. Particularly good examples of exercises that would satisfy the criteria include bodyweight exercises and high-intensity interval training.

Consider what you personally like and dislike

Rest assured that, to get fit, you don't need to routinely adhere to very specific exercises. The choice of useful exercises spans such a broad spectrum that you are unlikely to struggle in your search for such exercises that you truly enjoy doing.

Choosing genuinely fun exercises is crucial because it will help you continue to apply the self-discipline necessary for a sustainable exercise regime primed to deliver long-term results.

Monitor your activity levels and progress

There's some exaggeration to the mantra that "if you don't measure it, it doesn't exist". However, it also has a degree of truth - because, if you fail to closely track how you are doing, you might not realise that you are falling much shorter of your goal than you had long assumed.

After each workout session, note it on your calendar. Also remember that, for tracking your steps, your phone might already have an app - or, at least, one available for download - that can do this.

Turn exercising into a social occasion

When preparing to meet up with some friends, you could ask them if they would like to make the get-together an opportunity to work out with you. HuffPost reports that exercising with friends can help you maintain your motivation and also improve your fitness results.

If too few of your friends are fitness-minded, you could suitably expand your social circle by participating at boot camps run by our team at Prestige Boot Camp.
